Military pilot named as new Centcom chief

MGEN ROY O DEVERATURDA is currently the Commander, 2nd Air Division, BGBEAB, Lapu-Lapu City.

 

He earned his commission in 1980 and Military Pilot rating after graduating from the Aviation Cadet Program of the Philippine Air Force Flying School. He subsequently continued his flying career as attack pilot of 15th Strike Wing where he held the highest aircrew qualifications as Test Pilot, Flight Commander, Instructor Pilot and Flight Examiner for AT-28D Trojan “Tora Tora” and the OV-10A Bronco.

 

He underwent basic and advance trainings and education in preparation for the higher positions and greater responsibilities he would assume later on. He took up Squadron Officer Course (SOC) in 1991, where he graduated 1st in his class of 59 student-officers, and  Command Staff Course at Air Command and Staff College, where he garnered the coveted Outstanding Graduate Award and Academic Excellence award for attaining above 95% average and highest rating in all academic activities.

 

MGEN DEVERATURDA took up other civilian and military courses abroad. He attended the System Safety Course in University of Southern California in 1990, Defense Resource Management Course at US Naval Postgraduate School in 1996. He earned his Masters Degree in Management Studies at the University of New South Wales, Australia in 1999.

 

His Staff appointments include the following: Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans, J5, AFP, Chief of AFP Modernization Office; Assistant Chief of Air Staff for Operations, A-3; Assistant Chief of Air Staff for Plans, A-5; Assistant Chief AFP, Resource Management Office; Director Air Force Safety Office; Director for Operations, 15th Strike Wing; Director for Intelligence, 15th Strike Wing.

 

His Command duties have been: Wing Commander 15th Strike Wing, Wing Commander, 570th Composite Tactical Wing; Squadron Commander, 16th Attack Squadron and Flight Commander AT-28D and OV-10 Bronco.

 

MGEN ROY O DEVERATURDA earned various awards and decorations for eminently meritorious service in positions of major responsibilities, distinguished heroism and outstanding airmanship. He is also a recipient of “Top Gun” Award for Rocketry, Dive-Bombing, and Strafe. He led 570 CTW and bagged for two consecutive years Best Camp Award. He also steered the 15 SW to “Outstanding” rating of more than 95% in the AFIG Annual Inspection, the first and only PAF Unit so far that received such distinction.
