Camp Lukban, Catbalogan City, Samar— Following the tip from a concerned resident in the area, troops from the 8th Military Intelligence Battalion were able to recover a high-powered firearm on Aug. 11.
Major Amado Gutierrez, spokesman of the Phil. Army’s 8th Infantry Division based here, said the M16 rifle recovered in between the boundaries of Barangays (villages) San Francisco and San Miguel in Las Navas town, Northern Samar.
Maj. Gutierrez said the firearm was among the things left by members of the New People’s Army after an encounter with the military on July 31.
Also recovered with the firearm is a medical kit containing assorted medicines, a syringe, dextrose and a pair of gloves.
Maj. Gutierrez added Army soldiers were dispatched in the said barangays to pursue the rebels reported to be hiding there.
