Centcom: C4 blocks ready for release
Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City— Request for additional C4 blocks from Camp Aguinaldo has been approved.
This followed after Central Command chief, Lt. Gen. Ralph Villanueva made a phone call this morning (Feb 2) to follow up the request.
Centcom spokesperson, Lt. Col. Christopher Tampus said that Gen. Villanueva reiterated his stand that these vintage bombs should be disposed.
Tampus said that Gen. Villanueva also recommended to check for other bombs in the area since this will soon to be open to the public.
“He recommended to have metal detectors survey, check carefully and ensure that no bombs would remain in the area,” Tampus said.
The 1,000 pounds vintage bomb unearthed at a construction site in Asiatown IT Park in barangay Lahug, Cebu City in 2010 will also be included in the disposal.
“Based on the recommendation of Major Carlito Lachica, we will include this in the disposal. This will help in detonating the 24 other vintage bombs,” Tampus said.
Gen. Villanueva and other Centcom officials visited Kawit Island where the vintage bombs were found this morning (Feb. 2).
C4 blocks are now in Cebu ready to be withdrawn from the 7th Forward Service Support Unit (7FSSU).
